Final Fantasy V Four Job Fiesta Strategy Guide
The Final Fantasy Five Four Job Fiesta (FFF4JF) is a yearly event where people play Final Fantasy 5 using only 4 jobs--one from each crystal. The aim of this document is to provide guidance for each phase of the game. Rather than a detailed walkthrough, it will discuss boss strategies for various party configurations.
This is a living document, and contributions are welcome. I'm mostly building this from my own experience, and contributions are welcome.
World 1
Torna Canal
Karlabos
Thief
There's nothing for it but to go all-out in physical attacks. If you wipe, go grind out some more levels. Half your party will be fighting bare-handed, so put them on potion duty. Once you win, you'll want to go stock up on potions if you haven't already.
Ship Graveyard
Thief
Use Steal
on skeletons to get Mithril Daggers for everybody!
Siren
Thief
There isn't much difference here from Karlabos. The main difference is that when Siren turns undead, you should start throwing cure potions at her.
North Mountain
Thief
Once again, you're stuck with simply leveling up. Your mileage may vary, but my strategy is to focus on Magissa first and then take out Forza.
Walse
Garula
Thief
You don't have access to any of the tricks that trivialize this fight, so you have to take it slow and keep most of the party on potion duty to minimize Garula's counter attacks.
Karnak
Pro tip: when you first arrive in Karnak, you can make exactly one purchase at the low prices before story events cause a significant price increase. If anyone in your party can equip rods, I suggest buying as many ice rods as you can afford.
Fire Powered Ship
Thief
Farm Hi-Potions by using Steal
on Poltergeists. Fortunately, you can find these really easily just outside the boss room near the save point. Bring some tents so you can recover without using the potions you're farming.
Liquid Flame
General
The boss changes its form when it is attacked. Unless you have a Berserker in the party, you can force the boss to consume all its MP by getting it into the fire tornado form and let it cast Fira on itself. Sadly, this doesn't seem to impact the counter-attack when in the Hand form, but it at least prevents it from healing or casting Fira as a regular attack.
Berserker
On the plus side, the berserker is going to provide good DPS. On the negative side, each physical attack causes Liquid Flame to change forms, including some potentially painful counter-attacks, like the hand form casting Fira. The upshot here is that the Berserker is going to be bringing a lot of auto-triggered damage your way. Be well-prepared for healing.
Thief
You farmed a bunch of Hi-Potions, right? You're gonna be attacking and using those potions to stay alive. The plus side of having to grind all those levels for previous boss encounters is that you can probably survive a Fira
spell long enough to heal up.
Rod users
Use those ice rods as items in battle. Two or three should kill it. Easy peasy.
Library of the Ancients
One of the regular monsters casts L5 Death, so if any of your party are a level that is a multiple of 5, grind until you don't.
Beastmaster
After you defeat Ifrit, use Capture
on a Page 32 monster. Page 32 has 480 HP, which means that to capture it you will need to deal at least 440 damage to it. You may want to double up on Beastmaster in your party and have each Beastmaster capture a Page 32.
Ifrit
Thief
Thieves get battle priority thanks to their high agility, so when they're not attacking they should be on potion duty. Ifrit does a lot of damage so you might consider going back to the Fire Powered Ship and farming some Hi-Potions.
Beastmaster
Capture a Zu from outside the dungeon and release it against Ifrit for an easy 700 damage. Otherwise you're going to be on DPS duty.
Berserker
Fortunately this fight isn't gimmicky at all so there's no special considerations for the presence of the Berserker. Rip and tear until it is done.
Byblos
Beastmaster
Remember that Page 32 I told you to capture? Release
it to OHKO the boss. Note that it can miss, and that is why I suggested having a second beastmaster so you can Release
the second Page 32 if the first one misses.
Shifting Sands Desert
Berzerker
Kill your berzerker before you come here.
Sandworm
The gimmick for this boss is that it switches among 3 holes, and if you attack an empty hole then you get attacked by one or more Gravity spells. If you don't have a white mage available, bring a full stack of potions.
Berzerker
You want your berzerker dead for this fight because this fight is one of the few where they're a complete liability. Since they attack randomly, there's a 2/3 chance they attack one of the empty holes and trigger the Gravity counter.
Healing
If your HP gets down under 100 hp, have everyone on full-time potion duty and you should be able to get back to full health without too much trouble.
Don't forget to revive your Berzerker after the fight is over! You'll probably want to restock on potions while you're at it.
